@lispi314 is transactional, so failed upgrades don't factor; you can also choose to boot into any previous "generation" of your system.

From what I've gleaned from , you can also do that there.

But none of this helps with power outages.

šŸ’” What is an immutable Linux? And what value does it bring to the desktop experience?

The need for immutable Linux, a secure and unchangeable operating system, started in , , and mobile computing. We understood the unique needs of these fields and began developing Ubuntu Core in 2014.

As an immutable OS, offers a secure, optimised and modular system that supports atomic updates and rollbacks, secure boot and hardware backed encryption.

The title is misleading, but this is a good rundown of immutable desktops as a concept and why they are good for certain use cases. Deb-based will remain the choice for tinkerers, but it could be great for people or businesses who just want their desktop(s) to work -- or want most things stable and contain the apps that use a bleeding-edge stack (e.g. the Steam snap).

Immutable, All-Snap Ubuntu Desktop Coming Next Year

An all-snap Ubuntu desktop is coming ā€” and sooner than you might think! According to Canonicalā€™s Oliver Grawert, the next long-term support release of Ubuntu will be available to download in two versions: a classic, deb-based version and, for the first time, as an immutable, snap-based build too. You canā€™t see me but I can assure you that Iā€™m pulling my best faux-shocked face right now. Why the snark? Well, letā€™s face it: an all-snap Ubuntu desktop is inevitable. If Iā€™m surprised by anything itā€™s not that itā€™s happening next April, but that it has taken this long to happen :sys_more_orange:

@pieq @omgubuntu I started developing the already end-2017 and there they told me at that they want to do an all-Snap distro (and they had it already for server and IoT by means of ). During the time I have refined the CUPS Snap and worked with the team on needed features in snapd, especially the "cups" interface for Snaps of applications which print, so that they can print but not mess with the CUPS configuration.
