So, if @ubuntu ESM gives me "Expanded Security Maintenance" - does that mean that regular old Ubuntu Server gives me "Reduced Security Maintenance"?

Context: Terminal login in #UbuntuServer 22.04.3 now greets me with a warning that "ESM" isn't active and I should get the Pro plan to get "additional future security updates".

I trust that my security updates remain up to date.

But getting such a "greeting" logging on in the morning gives me a very shady feeling.

@billgoats I recommend something like a #hp #T620 #ThinClient for those that want to poke with #Linux on the #Desktop.
You can get one used with 4 GB RAM, WiFi and power supply for less than a @Raspberry_Pi #Pi4B2GB or #CM4WLite1GB at MSRP.
It'll run anything from #RaspberryPiOS for #ix86 and #lightweight #Linux distros like @bunsenlabs #BunsenLabsLinux to @ubuntu #UbuntuServer LTS and even @tails #Tails.
Tho #UbuntuDesktop will feel very slow on it.
But with something like #Porteus it's fine.

My new #NAS, aka "scratch" (after an unfortunate incident with one of the case panels) is up and running.

@wa7iut @nixCraft OFC one may just need a convenient way to sent files, and https://oshi.at as well as https://wsend.net may be viable options to do so.

Otherwise I found the most convenient solution is to just use a #ThinClient, put @ubuntu #UbuntuServer LTS [or any #Linux #Server #distro really] on and just provide file access per #SFTP.

It's literally how I sync shit.

Bonus point: At 10W max this is affordable even at absurd electricity prices like in Germany...

I'm working on my first diy home server.
Basic stuff: serve media, backup and share pictures, pihole, matrix server and maybe hosting my own webpage or masto instance (still debating on that one).

I'm wondering if I should go the #truenasscale or #ubuntuserver way ?

Mind you that I don't have any particular experience with neither of those. I'm open to suggestions.

Well, #UbuntuServer was a bust. The few programs that I wanted did not run or ran to poorly on the #MangoPi MQ-Pro. I have a few others #OS to try... Lets see which one I get to boot first... :headdesk:

Alright, here is what my #Linux noob butt got accomplished on my lil #MangoPi MQ-Pro so far:
- #UbuntuServer up and running
-Wifi configured and working
- #Htop installed
- #Terminews installed
-Added some RSS feeds

To do:
-Add more #RSS feeds
-Install #Tmux if available for #riscv

Now it’s time for bed. Peace out y’all ✌️

Fixed the issue with monitoring the APC battery backups. For one I forgot to plug the cable back into one of the servers 🤦🏼‍♂️

And the second one I didn't have the configuration setup properly 😵‍💫

The pricing output still seems way off so I'll dig into that next. 🔋
