@ucsc UC Santa Cruz, once the Hippy Campus, of the UC system has become the home of a lot of advanced scientific work. I wonder whether it's first Nobel laureates will come from the life sciences or from astrophysics.

I can imagine the big meadow on campus with herds of Dodos competing with the herds of wild Turkeys.

BTW, I nearly went to UCSC in 1968 (chose UCLA then Berkeley instead). I now live in Santa Cruz.

Just woke up from a dream where I was at #UCSC, in the dorms, with a massive cart of possessions including an upright piano. I was on the 3rd floor trying to find the freight elevator. Also, I needed to wash a large pile of dishes in the sink.

I haven't been at college for decades, and there was no freight elevator in the dorms. Also, I don't play piano.

I might have a sink full of dishes at home, though.

Excited for teaching to begin this quarter. New research projects, collaborations, possibilities.

New instance; new #introduction!

I got my PhD in physics at #UCSC working with the #DarkEnergySurvey. I studied #cosmology via galaxy clusters, observing at #CTIO and via #Chandra. It's hard to stay in touch with the field, so I am excited to see that #astrodon is a thing!

Now I am a software engineer at Google, optimizing their fiber optic networks. In my spare time, I play lead guitar, I'm learning Japanese, and I play a ton of #pathfinder2e. I'm excited to discuss all of the above here!
