#UCU armchair policymakers ignore the basic realities of the Union. Nationally we’re at about 30% density, split between the research intensive, pre-‘92s, and the ex-polytechnic and other post-‘92s, 70:30 respectively. But the post-‘92s are 70% of institutions, and don’t have the same pension as the pre-‘92s. Membership is split roughly 80:20 academic to PS staff. Turnout at NEC elections is 10-20%, and c.56% in strike ballots.

Give your heads a wobble, comrades. This is not a winning hand.

#UCU just announced an end to the MAB and 5 new days of strike action.

5 days of strikes is a much less scary prospect for universities than months of MAB. Any reason to think these new strikes will achieve what the MAB didn't? Or are we being asked to strike, causing staff and students hardship, just to show that we can?

I'm not saying we should give up. But I am saying there there should be a concrete rationale behind further action. #UCUrising
