Within a minute, the taxi trip was canceled: turns out it wasn't my taxi, but someone else's going to the same place—the railway station. I said, well let's just go anyway. But no. You see, I had to book it first: couldn't just pay—like an old style taxi, even though this was an old style taxi company. While attempting to book it online, someone else booked it, so I had to get out, and walk. By now I was late for my train, and never mind walking 25 min with luggage across streets with sidewalks so rough I had at times to walk on the road. All was saved—minus profuse sweating—by the train being 20 minutes late.
Going anywhere in the #UK requires at least an hour of buffer time because this will happen. Not the first, second or third time for me. Can't remember the last time I could rely on public infrastructure without issue.
