Quickie from last night: a decent pale ale — OK, "Session IPA" — from Full Circle Brew Co at 4.2%. It had a nice balance of flavours, lightish body... A good one for sipping in front of the TV.

Lidl is selling beers made with some of the UK's larger craft brewers.

Prices start at £1.19 for Fourpure's 4% Helles (330ml). Fourpure also has a 5.4% IPA, £4.49 for 4x330ml.

Then at £1.79 for 440ml there's a 4.5% hazy (Magic Rock), a 4% pale ale (SALT), a 4.5% stout (Thornbridge) and a 4% session IPA (Harbour).

I wonder if they've had to cut any corners to sell them so cheaply, but with the cost of living these days the prices are very welcome!

Sad news this morning that Unity Brewing Co is closing down. Another great brewery lost.

Comment from the Founder, Jimmy Hatherley, is grimly unsurprising:

“Covid, Brexit and the cost of living crisis have made it impossible for us to operate without making a loss every month.”

Unity were small but very well respected within the industry and made great beers. If they can go under, who's next?

Reckon we may see some big names go this year.

Apparently Asahi is stopping or limiting Fuller's exports everywhere. I thought it was just Finland not getting Vintage Ale or casks but people in FB are talking exports stopping completely to US, Canada and Australia.

WTF is going on there? Are they trying to make it into a domestic brand or something? It's a world renowned brewery for god's sake.

Could it just ONCE work out so that the global giant doesn't fuck everything up?
