Took a day and a half to finish up there, but after a quick van Kip I got over to another farm just round the corner.

Loads of woodland restoration to do, but interestingly this whole huge field might be a candidate for natural regen.

Pottering around a site, removing guards and stakes from failed trees, and replacing guards on a few saplings that aren’t dead yet!

This area was considered a 100% failure (we’ve already replanted nearby on better ground) but about ~10% have come back from the dead.

Even our ecologist clocked these as dead but they’re having another go now it’s spring.

UK is unsurprisingly doing a piss poor job at decarbonising farming, and still wildly missing targets for reforestation and peatland restoration. All of these are solvable problems if you get somebody in charge who 1) has a clue 2) bothers to try.

Thankfully my charity should soon be restoring several thousand acres of degraded and drained peat, a cool a million tonnes of CO2e over fifty years, but we need policy to meet net-zero not ad-hoc actions.

Can we focus on stopping RIS2 now? Either as well or instead but roads have been getting off lightly in the public eye, and 4,000mi of roads and traffic is infinitely more damaging than a bit of electric rail. #UKClimate
