I recently watched a Britis b/w mystery/horror film from 1962 called 'Night of the Hawk'. In it a sceptical professor who studies the origins of superstitions & religions is sneakily attacked by an unknown malevolent force without noticing. But his wife -who may or may not be a witch- does and is willing to do everything to protect him out of love even if that means sacrificing herself in his place. This movie manages to create and uphold an eerie atmosphere with almost no special effects just by intelligent use of settings, lighting and the actors' performances, especially by the female lead Janet Blair. There are of course some aspects I found unbelievable or dated, like the rough treatment the professor puts upon his wife when he discovers the first clues of her apparent dealings with caribbean-originated voodoo witchcraft. Definitely recommended! #cinemastodon #UKfilms #classicfilm #horrormovies
