A lot more photos from inside the house here - article in Ukrainian but the work is stunning. Rayko literally turned the walls and ceilings of her house into one massive artwork as a way to cope with personal tragedy. Really remarkable.

Some stunning work in this woman's house in Oleshky. Destroyed forever by russians, flooded to the roof, but worthy of remembering. The owls and other birds are just stunning.

"Katerina," Taras Shevchenko, 1840.
Shevchenko was an artist, poet, folklorist, and public/political figure in Ukraine. His works are considered the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and language. This painting shows a scene from his poem "Katerina," where the heroine, representing Ukraine, turns away from a deceitful, controlling lover, representing Russia. Prescient, eh?
From the Taras Shevchenko National Museum, Kyiv, Ukraine.

A year ago today, the world lost an artistic gem.
Lyubov Panchenko - born in Bucha, Ukraine, 1938 - died in Bucha, 2022.
During her life she travelled Ukraine, exploring the traditional folk art of her country. She produced watercolours, collages, designed embroidery and dresses. In her later years, she received the Vasyl Stus prize.

Some more Ukrainian art. Today, some works by Maria Prymachenko.
Born in 1909, died 1997, Prymachenko produced many pieces in a distinctive, fantastical style.
It is reported that Picasso said "I bow down before the artistic miracle of this brilliant Ukrainian" after meeting her.
Shortly after her death, the minor planet (142624) Prymachenko was named after her.

Some beautiful Ukrainian art. I love this piece - love the brightness of the colours, the geometric style, the flowing lines.
It is a watercolour titled 'Bucha Spring' by Lyubov Panchenko, about whom I shared a little before:

#Aivazovsky and #Repin have also been recognized as Ukrainian artists in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
If earlier the profiles of the artists on the museum's website indicated that they were #Russians, now both are marked as "#Ukrainians". #UkrainianArt

Recently came across some beautiful #UkrainianArt by the artist #LiubovPanchenko. Something about the colour palette and the flowing, sharp lines in these works really hits me, such striking and lovely pieces.
Panchenko was born just before World War 2, but her staunch opposition to the Soviet regime and refusal to change her style to suit the authorities meant she never had an exhibition of her work until independence.
She lived in #Bucha, #Ukraine until her death in April 2022 aged 84.
