I spent a lot of time - quite a few years - staying in and resting because of my #UlcerativeColitis. Before I got ill I was out on the evenings all the time, evening classes, dance classes, theatre. Then I got so sick I could barely get through the work day. But I’ve been fairly healthy a while now (and even healthier when I can work from home) and it’s time to get some sort of life back.

Today is the 75th anniversary of our National Healthcare Service.

Thank you to all the amazing, passionate and dedicated healthcare professionals for all you do to support people living with all types of illnesses and conditions, including my own acoustic neuroma and ulcerative colitis.

I was perfectly fine and then for no reason I had a bad #UlcerativeColitis flare up tonight, have been on the loo most of the night, and am still in pain and with diarrhoea.

Yet I will still have to work. I can thankfully work from home but I’d rather rest. But the thing with #ChronicIllness and #Disability is when you go through something that would make a non-disabled person stay in bed all day, you are expected to just get up and do your day because that’s just your life.

A very tough month dealing with a flare up of IBD. Thought it was easing off but then symptoms worse again this morning. Doc said hopefully just a blip while things are settling down. It’s damn frustrating! #IBD #UlcerativeColitis

One of the "fun" things about having #UlcerativeColitis is that it causes so many random symptoms outside the digestive system. So I'm constantly wondering: Is this joint pain from moving the wrong way or an impending UC flare? Is this random lump in my leg just a bruise or UC caused erythema? Is my eye pain allergies or UC iritis? Is the fatigue overexertion or the sign of a flare? Ugh.

Happy World #IBD Day to my fellow Crohnie homies and all other fellow IBD fam. It's sad that we all have to go through this awful disease, but I'm thankful that I've found a wonderful community of friends to help us all get through this. - This week I received post from Norway, Japan, and Yorkshire. I like snazzy stamps.

- I've got the next 2 days off and we're going to an electric vehicle/environmental exhibition tomorrow.

- I made vegetable frittata muffins for the first time and they were great! An #UlcerativeColitis friendly recipe as well.

- I stop eating before I'm full
- Yakult probiotics
- Less stress (not my doing but I'll take it!)
- Gentle daily exercise
- Reduced caffeine intake
- An iron tablet every few days
- Choosing what I want to eat by my gut-feeling, not by "recommended" diets

Maybe one thing in particular is making all the difference or maybe it's a combination. It's just nice being able to function again!

The joys of #UlcerativeColitis mean not knowing what is safe to eat. I can't think of a single food from any dietary group that *might* not be bad according to someone somewhere.

Water is safe. This won't cause pain and bleeding.

But beware of vegetables, fruits, nuts, meat, poultry, bread, pasta, processed foods, fried food, fake-meat alternatives, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, sugar, beans, seeds and fish. And have lots of fibre but don't have any fibre. GOOD LUCK.

Ah the joys of #UlcerativeColitis...

Haven't done a #dungeon23 post for a while, have been writing though. Did half a page yesterday, but it's a bit too long to post.

The other part of the reason I didn't post this yesterday, and haven't written today, is that my #UlcerativeColitis is causing fatigue at the moment. Makes the old brainbox too foggy to create.

It's cool though I knew there'd be days like this. It's why I try to get four or more entries written at a time when I do have the spoons.
