Given that the Mail makes its money both from shroudwaving health stories and carrying the advertising for paying businesses, I was interested to see how it would cover the #UltraProcessed Food (#UPF) story.
Their headline runs (in part) "Experts warn of 'tidal wave of harm' - but science suggests it's not that clear cut".
Which is such a bravely cakeist approach to denialism that I wonder where I've seen it before.

#Disease of #affluenza linked to #obesity, #hypertension and #diabetes now showing up in children perhaps because of #diets high in #ultraprocessed foods, increased use of (unnecessary) #antibiotics early in life, and #climatechange causing more cases of #dehydration.

This is interesting. Not least because the words #emulsifier and #ultraprocessed don't appear at all.
I can think of one reason why a company that makes a living by substituting fat, salt and sugar with starch, calcium lactate/citrate and acesulfame might want to call for higher taxes on more conventional ingredients. What I can't work out is why the Guardian has chosen not to mention it.
In the meantime, this wheeze might best be served with a bucketful of salt.

#UltraProcessed study results, plus a correction.
Sometimes you don't get the answer you want. That's why they call it an experiment.

Are we playing #WackAMole with #UltraProcessed foods? Neglecting larger issues with formulation and marketing?

This seems a little twisted. By the FDA definition, #UltraProcessed energy bars might be labeled #healthy but not a classic French baguette made simply from flour, water, salt, and yeast. So we should eat more energy bars?

The point you make in this commentary is 👏. When you restrict someone's food options, and they eat less calories than baseline, they will likely lose weight.
We've seen this in studies with #ultraprocessed food, #keto, #lowcarb, #portioncontrol, #macros....
Also, cherry picking outcomes...
