I finally got ahold of the Louisiana play that is about the Houma people. This thing is an amazing resource... while there is some French/Euro theatrical styles and embellishments to wade through and largely ignore tbh, there is some KEY regional Indigenous social norms that get showcased that I was able to pick up on, and I was quite impressed at how he showcased those interactions. Then the cultural knowledge is... well some has gone out of common/modern tribal knowledge, for sure. #UmaSeyah

Like last time, traditional crafts and games will be demonstrated and open for attendees to learn. Traditional foods will be served. Speakers of Houma French and the Houma Language Project reclaiming Uma' Anũpa' will also be present. This is also a time to reconnect as relatives in community. Again, this event is not for the general public, but we encourage our Indigenous kin to bring their immediate families and non-Indigenous partners."

My elder cried today, thinking about how thankful she was that the current group of impassioned youth are helping progress our traditional knowledge tribal education for all our people, thinking about how her parents were trying to keep the culture going too and how many of our people she's seen just assimilate. Oh, my heart. I reminded her, we couldn't do this without her, and we love her *so much* and we're so, so thankful that she believes in us and the work we're doing, and that she sees us and loves us. I'm still so happy seeing this and my friends and family in here, and thinking of all I've accomplished as well, and the (thus far) real excitement my lil farm project has been generating. I am excited to begin opening things up more now that we have a baseline of infrastructure! I toured the new facility, and am so, so excited for all the sheer possibilities that we have now open to us. I'm so excited to be here to HELP! To share in the vision and help bring all of us up, together. So excited to grow plant babies, and seed passion for the land in people. 5 year plan is to get the farmland paid off, so that we never have to worry again about the bank taking back the land. Land Back to us, not banks! My partner and i are a powerful force together, I look forward to continuing to showcase radical love and caring and hard work towards positive change with him. <3
