To follow up on this, I did go shopping at Metro yesterday. I congratulated and thanked some of the staff I bumped into for standing up for a better world for workers, which they appreciated.

And, the store was quite crowded. There were a lot of sales, which I assume is to lure customers back in. Overall a good experience. And, it does show that better compensation for retail workers is NOT the death knell of business. Quite the opposite.

This site lists the 27 Metro stores which are unionized and will be opening shortly due to the strike being settled. The closest to me is at 2300 Yonge St. So, I shall now do some of my food shopping there.

Imagine thinking it's not an injustice that your workers can't afford the food from the store they work at or that they often have to access food banks to make up for their shitty wages.

Canada needs to get real on the level of food insecurity in our society while so much food goes wasted and CEOs enjoy their gilded parachutes.

If you live in the #Toronto area, go to your local Metro store and walk the picket lines with a few of the workers on strike. Metro has a history of rabidly anti-union and anti-worker behaviour, and with the profits they're turning, they can afford to do better for the wages, benefits and pensions of front-line workers.

It'll help to raise the floor for service all service workers.
