Okay, #UnionPlace is all updated and should be happy. If you're still seeing 502 errors (particularly with the web client / progressive web app), a force reload (Ctrl-Shift-R or the like, or closing and restarting your window and/or browser) should do the trick.

Now that I'm home I'm going to do a little bit of #UnionPlace maintenance / housekeeping. We may have a small handful of 5-10 minute downtimes over the next hour, shouldn't be anything extended.

I've run into media limit issues on #UnionPlace but not yet defed issues.

Though I suppose I could have gotten silently cut off from someone and not noticed.

Yeah Mastodon has some serious design issues around moderation, outside of the cultural issues.

Hold on tight #UnionPlace, quick upgrade to Mastodon 4.1.5 incoming. Back in < 5 minutes.

we will of course continue to monitor the situations as they arise, but please be aware we are doing that, and don't jump at us to do one way or the other. a lot changed in the five days I was offline, for the 4th of July psych ward stuff!

I will migrate to another instance in a few days. I've enjoyed #UnionPlace.

I disagree with a wait & see approach to Facebook. I understand the reasoning around access, but it's misguided. There are safer ways to achieve those aims. Allowing FB in is a contradiction of "LGBTQ: Safe Space". In deciding to favor access & reach over upholding that server rule, it feels like I will be made unsafe here.

I'm disappointed that a union instance chose to sit out the FediPact / FaceBlock virtual picket.

@marc_w that is a complicated question to answer precisely. Most importantly: the information I've seen is that Meta/Threads/Instagram is NOT going to be federating at all initially.

That said, unless you post followers-only (or mentioned-only aka DM), ~everything you post on #UnionPlace CAN, technically, be read by just about anyone.

There's nothing technical stopping Meta, or anyone, from grabbing your content today. Even if we server-level blocked them, they could access it logged-out.

If you've recently tried to sign up for #UnionPlace and were rejected, it's not because we don't like you, it's because you didn't read the prompt. Just saying you're leaving Twitter is not a good reason to join. Please tell us a little more about yourself and your connection/interest in the labor movement!

We'll accept almost anything as long as it's more substantial than "leaving Twitter" or "talk to friends".

@futurebird FWIW there are several feature requests out around this, also, your server admins can (if they want to invest a LOT of time, huge kudos to @josh who does it here on #UnionPlace ) manually curate the trending hashtags to be appropriately placed.

So far I haven't seen much traction on the feature requests around this, sadly. 😞

continuation of the #UnionPlace #FediBlockMeta announcement, my own two cents:

we defederate bad actors where users on the instances perpetuate actions against our Terms of Service.

we defederate over truly objectionable and illegal material that is harmful to our user base obviously.

we have defederated once from an instance that was adamant about harbouring a known serial abuser.

we have silenced occasional instances over fediverse drama and politics.

other than that, however.

hi #UnionPlace! good morning! we've received the recent comments regarding various blocking, and we are discussing it and should have an announcement within a day or two. we very much appreciate all y'all's input and the guidance it provides our decision-making process in these matters.
