I’m enjoying Unprisoned on Hulu. Delroy Lindo is a gem. Kerry Washington and the rest of the cast are really good. And the actor playing Kerry Washington’s inner child is terrific.

#Watching #Unprisoned on Disney+ and really liking it

TBH, I tend to avoid “comedies”, so let’s call Unprisoned a “Dramedy”.

Having had a dysfunctional childhood (like yer average white Australian) but with a single parent who was a truly horrible person, I usually find shows about dysfunctional families unwatchable. But Unprisoned is good value.

Unprisoned is set in the U.S. - Okay, Australia is not perfect but the U.S. is phukt, just sayin’ -
The main characters are Black - another chance for this lil ole white lady to learn something/ escape the blancmange BS my demographic is “supposed” to enjoy-

Paige is a single mom/ therapist whose father is out on parole after 17 years. Does she have “avoidant attachment” issues?
Does a prison-industrial-complex based economy protect/ serve justice/ reform, or is it just another system made up of a heap of smaller systems (i.e historical and usually biased decisions intended to funnel power to 1% and keep things that way?)
Stuff like that…

Unprisoned is a well made and, at times, moving comedy that’s actually “about” something.

PS other Kerry Washington work I’ve really enjoyed recently includes American Son (Netflix AU) and Little Fires Everywhere (Prime/ or Apple)
