This piece from composer and drummer Nate Smith might make you want to dance. I hadn't heard this rhythm pattern before and found it very fun. It sounds like syncopating in 4/4 but when you get to the 8th beat you say "8 & &." It also sounds like alternation between a bar 14/8 time then a bar of 3/8.

moment! The studio version of "Kouzin" is much more deliberate than the live rendition (following post). In it I hear eighths in common time against eighths in 6/8.

There is also a totally different vocalist in the live version. This tune from Afro-Caribbean French artist Schwarz-Bart is on my playlist (of the African diaspora).
