In our latest paper, led by Waverley Birch, we investigate the effect of stromwater ponds on connectivity within the #wetlandscape using #graphtheory. We find that wetlands were more connected before #urbanization, but ponds may provide stepping stones connecting remnant wetlands in urban areas.

Human activities variably affect animal #populations. Rigal et al (2023) used a large database (170 #bird species, 20k sites, 28 countries, 37 years) to measure effects of #farming, #urbanization, #deforestation, and #climate (temperature) on bird populations in #Europe.

Two new studies illustrate how the breeding behaviors of cuckoos and Daurian redstarts co-evolve. Redstarts move their nesting sites closer to human settlements to protect their nest against brood parasitism. Cuckoos use an egg matching strategy to find the optimal host nest for their eggs.
