It is the #largest #UrbanForest in #Canada at 285 hectares & home to a variety of wildlife, dozens of songbirds & hundreds of plants, some rare.
But it might have ended up looking like any other suburban area in the city, if not for the #StockMarketCrash in 1929.

We had another dusting of snow! And without going into enough detail to have to cw, it was making me feel down. I couldn't figure out WHY (I will cw the next post) and then I also realized my chronic pain had crept up to like a 6*.
Oh. Spring is coming, Toronto. The pain in my knees and hips and shoulders has decreed it.
*This is not new. I've had this since my early 30s. It should not surprise me every spring, but it does.

We got a lot of snow last night. These photos are from the park this morning before everyone went to enjoy the warm snowy day! It's already starting to melt and it's slushy. I helped push a van out of a snowbank. I learned my new asthma meds are working. I'm gonna rest before walking the dog before taking transit to visit a pal.

I'd love to have a cycling culture in Oz.
Australians really need to let go of the 'exercise' idea of bikes and just use it as transport. As commute. Get comfortable bikes instead of these aerodynamic light spacecrafts. Stop putting lycra on before you go out. Don't drive to the schools or train stations, just cycle there.
The Dutch could really learn by looking at Australian parks and trails. Water fountains everywhere - for humans AND dogs -, free public toilets, free barbeques, with picnic tables and covered gazebos for all to use.
Oh, and the Dutch might have to learn not to vandalise everything in their eyesight. That might help too.
