Just have to vent one more time my disappointment in #USAA, of which I was a member for 51 years. I got scammed by somebody who had my account number, name and cell number, and USAA's response (after I wrote a letter to the president) was, "Gee, too bad, nothing we can do." The last communication was a call from a woman who said she was from the president's office and that she'd look into it. If she did, she didn't see fit to mention it to me.

Had to quit #USAA after 51 years. Unfortunately the company that served military officers and their families, and was run by a retired military officer, has been taken over by growth-at-all-costs MBA geniuses and turned, I'm sad to say, to shit.

You would think that #USAA would look out for the best interest to #Veteran. But, they are just another Corporation that has no problem telling lies, playing word games, and refusing to make changes to policyholders accounts.

Think #USAA Federal Savings is a good place to park your money? Maybe it isn't: a scammer, who had my account number, name and phone number beat me out of $997 with a very persuasive pitch that caught me at just the right time (for the scammer). #USAA's response: "Sucks to be you," in effect.

So beware. I've been a member for 51 years, and recall the time when customer service was the prime directive. Now they've hired MBA financial engineers to "optimize" everything & this is the result. Sad!

@hyperplanes @jsrailton #USAA (credit union) has had app-based #2FA for a long time, although I'm not sure how easy it is to get around that via other account recovery mechanisms. Generally I agree with your point, though; banks tend to be terrible about offering non-phone-based 2FA. I'm interested to hear from others about banks that may have decent authentication options.

Seeing these #layoffs going through a number of the #MANGA (#Meta, #Amazon, #Netflix, #Google, & #Apple) companies, I'm reminded of the time I was a pretty new college-hire selected to have lunch with Maj. Gen. Josue "Joe" Robles, who was the CEO at #USAA at the time, circa 2007-8, with about 40 of my peers.

We asked him whether we could expect another layoff like the one USAA had in 2000-2001, still referred to by or mentors and coworkers as The Purge. His response was highly formative for me:
