One of the most interesting sports events I've ever heard of is the Erzberg Rodeo motorcycle race.
After two days of qualifying, the 500 fastest riders all get to start in 35 km endurance race through a huge quarry. The race is automatically ended after 4 hours (for safety reasons, I assume), by which point typically less than 10 riders have actually made it to the finish yet.
What's even crazier is that of the few who do make it, some do it even well under 3 hours.
The Berlin Wall stood for just over 28 years. It has been down now for over 33 years.
Like, did you know that for every letter A-Z, there exists an unit testing software with a name of the form "CUnit"? Some first letters are occupied even twice.
#Germany is the 19th largest country by population with the 4th highest GDP and 18th largest GDP per capita.
If West and East Germany were separate countries (and nothing else changed), West Germany would still be the 19th largest country by population and 4th highest by GDP, and climb to 13th per capita.
East Germany would be the 74th largest country by population and the 27th highest by GDP and the 25th per capita.
We're a stupidly rich country!
Spiders consume between 400 and 800 millions tons of meat every year.
Total weight of all humans is approximately 300 millions tons.
Ergo, spiders would easily eat all of us in less than a year.

In Spanish, the address "Señor" comes from "elder." (Same in Italian and French.)
In English, the address "Mister" comes from "master."
But German probably takes the cake with "Herr", which means "lord".
Yet at the same time, women are not addressed with the female form of "Herr", but as "Frau". Which simply means "woman".
When you need to sharpen your knife to slice tomatoes, and you don't have a knife sharpener, just use the bottom edge of your ceramic mug.
To sharpen the knife, not to slice them
Apparently, a period of a million years is called a "megaannum".
It's Latin:
Mega -> Million (Also the SI prefix that denotes 10^6)
Ann (Annum, 2nd Genitive, plural) -> Year (Years)
I guess you learn something every day.

Did you know Pac-Man had originally been named Puck-Man, but was renamed shortly after due to fear of people scratching off a specific part of the letter P and parents not allowing their children to play this "naughty" game?

Today, I learned from my 90-year old grandpa that the horizontal cross bar on old lamp posts is there to lean a ladder against while cleaning the glass of residue from the gas flame.
Supporting a ladder just against the lamp pole directly is a bad fall waiting to happen.

"bookkeeper" is the only English word that: (A) has three double-letters and also (B) they are consecutive.
Condition (A) is matched by 24 English words. I stumbled upon them while reading about the new exaflops supercomputer from Tennessee.
