8 potential jobs out of nearly 1000. Clearly what I’m doing isn’t working. I think the problem is I changed my focus. After spending 23 years at ad agencies I was trying to switch back to my original passion, what got me into design in the first place: #UserInterfaceDesign and #DesignSystems. Sadly it seems most companies no longer see any delineation between #UI and #UX. It’s all one job to them: #ProductDesigner. some job listings that expected the role to write production-ready HTML/CSS.

UI 👏 IS 👏 NOT 👏 UX 👏
They are closely related and there is overlap, but they are NOT the same job. They require different skills, different training, different expertise. Unfotunately nearly every job listing I come across wants a unicorn who is an expert in both (Product Designer, UIUX Designer). As a UI designer it's incredibly frustrating.

Already addressed to some extent, years ago, in fairness: with the changes to focus grabbing in Windows NT (as contrasted with what 16-bit DOS+Windows did before), the focus-follows-mouse behaviour of the X Window system (before people started making window managers default to looking and acting like Microsoft Windows), and the fact that critical system dialogues in Windows NT (such as the UAE dialogue) don't have default buttons or keyboard accelerators.
Published an article about footer design on my blog.

Wow! That didn’t take long!
“Trained on thousands of outstanding #designs, #GalileoAI turns #NaturalLanguage prompts into #HighFidelity #designs.” Allegedly, these high fidelity #mockups are even editable in #Figma!

#UI #UX Hex-hex. No, #userinterfacedesign and #userexperience is not magic.

Why is QRT a bad idea. An example from today:
1. Certifiably dangerous (irl) troll is allowed back on Twitter by braindead CEO.
2. Troll trolls Greta Thunberg in a QRT.
3. Troll’s idiot followers reply in kind and QRT troll.
4. Troll’s antagonists (good folk) reply in outrage and QRT.
5. Greta Thunberg puts troll down in QRT.
6. Troll’s idiot followers troll Greta Thunberg in replies and QRTs.
7. This goes all over Twitter, and blows ever bigger, meaning that even those of us who have the troll and many of his followers blocked, see certain QRTs.
8. Troll, with his microbrain and peanut heart, is happy for all the attention he’s getting. So are his followers.
9. Everyone else is miserable.
If there were no QRT, the troll would not have been able to put his initial post on his own timeline, but would only have been able to reply to Greta Thunberg, who could simply block him. And everything would be hidden from the rest of us.
#Mastodon has no equivalent of quote-retweet, and this kind of scenario is why.

I keep rolling my eyes, when links to secondary content just tell me to "learn more" instead of being more precise about what to expect.
This article is quite good explaining why this phrase is to be used with caution and what alternatives are good: https://www.nngroup.com/articles/learn-more-links/

I’ve had issues with this on Instagram, Twitter, and all the rest of the socials but only after trying four different Mastodon apps did it occur to me:
The hardest user interface aspect to get right is making a ”Follow“ button that makes clear whether you’re already following someone or whether you need to click it to follow them.
Apologies people who think I can’t make up my mind about you. I did want to follow you.

RIP. :-( Yes, I am copying-and-pasting as I prepare this post.
