PSA: via @mattbc, how to deal with a for-profit 'healthcare' system that would rather let you die:
And now good ole American DIY healthcare. After 6 months and 6 ER trips my insurance finally approved my spine MRI. And I’m making 4 calls today to schedule follow up with specialists. Not hopeful on timing. One specialist first opening is in 4 months. #USHealthcare #Medicaid #Medicare #Healthcare

Prior Authorization a tool to “delay and deny care”
"In the meantime, the patients aren’t getting treated, and we know that a significant portion of those patients give up. So their diabetes, their depression, their hypertension, or whatever it is just gets worse.”
Everyone gave Alan Grayson shit, but he was right about private healthcare.
Dont get sick or if you do, please die quickly.

One of the minor sucky parts about the way the U.S. healthcare system works is my medications. My insurer won’t cover my long-term meds unless I use their mail order pharmacy and get 90 day refills. Those bottles take up a lot of space and when traveling that is less room for me to pack other stuff. I’d really love medication access to be easier, or in lieu of that, refills to come in less bulky and wasteful packaging.

Our well-oiled healthcare/insurance system at work… sorry for the childish state of the redactions, I was too exasperated to do anything else #fuckCigna #UShealthcare
As someone who's been living with broken molars for years, that "we have to survive" thing brought me to tears.
Most of us can't afford dental care, even with insurance.
Secondary rant: YT people accepting any and all sponsorships because they too have to survive somehow.
After more than 2 decades my primary care physician retired, 2.5 years ago, it took me several months to find a suitable replacement, who after 6 months decided to stop seeing patients and focus on clinical research full time. Another search commenced - found a doctor and she's been great for the past year. Yesterday in the mail I received a notice that she's moving out of state.
This is the United States. It is hard to find a doctor that is 1) not in bed with the pharmaceutical companies, 2) moving me through a quick fire assembly line, and 3) actually considers alternate health solutions, ie DO instead of MD. The search begins again.... #FirstWorldProblems #USHealthCare

Change my mind: the US healthcare "system" is actually a make-work program for rich people's kids who have no desire to run businesses.
free or discounted services in charity care. Meanwhile, >100 million adults in the US are saddled with healthcare debts.

As a doctor, I cant stress enough that if you think your doctor is doing a poor job, go to patient relations and explain why.
This is a way of advocating not only for yourself but for other patients.
Example:
-untimely refills is often easily rectified if more workers were hired (NPs, PAs, etc) and is a specific focus of labor cost cutting in the U.S. right now.
Every month my meds are refilled over a week later than when i submitted the request.

I made this short dramedy about elderly couple contemplating divorce to pay medical bills, all too common in the US. It's also features dreamy singing by a local rabbi, and, I included a song with the worst lyrics I could possibly come up with, and it only made the film all the better! Please share if you enjoy, especially with healthcare activists/organizations. #film #shorts #indiefilm #comedy #healthcare #ushealthcare #films #filmmaking #acting #pittsburgh

Mrs. Ref works in the oncology dept at the local medical facility. She has a patient whose meds have a $3000 copay. I told her, “If I ever need a medicine that has a $3000 copay, I’m going to die.”

Yes, I'm satirizing a real headline here, but, alas, from personal experience I can tell you that if you want to spot billing errors from medical places, you do need to take on a second job. 😩
This is the #supidity of the system under which we live in the #USA.

The clinic says we owe $800 for a visit in March. The insurance paperwork says it's part of their negotiated discount and I am not responsible for this amount. I called clinic billing and they say talk to the insurance provider. Insurance says they can't talk to me because my husband is the insured. He has to call the insurance company and authorize me to sort this out. Not how I planned to spend my day off.

This is shocking. Healthcare in this country needs a major overhaul. No wonder we have lost so many nurses. We need much tighter regulation over patient to nurse ratios and an end to wage theft. #nurses #ushealthcare #USHealthCareCrisis
