It still boggles my mind with the #USmidterms that the vote counting takes so long, especially when they use electronic voting in so many places (which btw, is a terrible idea). Over in the UK, we know almost all the results by 9AM the following morning, and that's with all votes being counted by hand.

Is there actually a proper reason for it, or is it another situation of a poorly managed system working to disincentivise its usage (voting in this case)?
