When my daughter found out I wasn't planning to make my sweet potato pie this year, she sent me this GIF. (Dramatic much?!)

#Thanksgiving to me is a very complicated US holiday, with a very toxic indigenous-erasing and #USAmerican mythical history, but also serving an important positive social function of urging folks to practice gratitude and to connect with loved ones over good food.

Today is the day that my kitchen gets warped into 'chef central', in order to help prepare for tomorrow's Thanksgiving Day community feast. My part is to prepare 2 turkeys, 1 ham and some kind of dessert. This will be delivered to our local community hall, where it will be added to a feast that will be capable of feeding the entire town, which is around 300+ people. We do this every year, and I absolutely adore being able to be part of this tradition. #USThanksgiving

Both @docsavag and I are orphans and have been for over a decade. We have a small, luncheon on #USThanksgiving for just the two of us. It's great and the only thing that would make it better is if all our parents were still alive to dine with us.

There is something about the smell of roast turkey that is intoxicating. I can't wait for that smell on Thursday. 🤤
