@darmato if you’re talking about the World Cup of women’s association football, I called it the final nail in the coffin of American empire because our Empire actually did decline. #USWNT placing lower than second place certainly felt like that.

OK, I'm wiped out from the exhaustive "post-mortems" on the NOT ACTUALLY DEAD #USWNT. The latest one - it just appeared in my mailbox, from people I really like - says something about how "this can be fixed so it never happens again." Y'all. It's BORING if Germany, or the US, or Japan, or Norway (or the as-yet-have-not-won-a-WC England, or Nigeria, or Jamaica, or Colombia, etc). wins EVERY TIME.
