This is one of a million prehistoric rock formations on Smokey Mountain Rd, in Utah. The southwest is full of these majestic formations. They all have unique character and look completely different depending on how the light illuminates them. I don't feel humble often, but when in the presence of these awe inspiring earth sculptures I feel like a grain of sand.

I've been chasing the milky way for a long time. This is one of my earlier images from a road trip to Arches National Park several years ago.

Now I live in an RV and hang out in the darkest places in the country so I can do this all the time. After spending any amount of time in a place like that... how could you not?

This is Factory Butte. It's a Mars like landscape in Utah, USA. It's actually so Mars like - that there's an actually facility called the Mars Desert Research Station out there.

Scientists spend 6 months at a time, isolated out in the harsh landscape to simulate what life would be like on Mars.

Some day, we might all be glad they did.
