WTF was that? GWitch overtly referenced Revolutionary Girl Utena in all sorts of ways: Utena was not only one of the best anime of all time but also an iconic lesbian show for its time despite having no depicted overt lesbianism as such (until you get to the End of Utena movie). Yet GWitch manages to have even less than Utena did. The two main female characters hold hands in a "good friends" kind of way and that seems to be it. Why even bother with all the Utena references if the show is going to do that?

Schematically, the overall shape of the two shows is similar. Utena is about escaping the childhood confines of school and growing up to be an adult. GWitch is about escaping the childhood relationship with one's parents and growing up to be an adult. Sulettta's most important relationship is not with Miorine, but with Suletta's mom.

So many puzzling choices with the Utena references, though. The people who make Gundam tout Suletta as their first LGBT protagonist but the Utena homage seems to have been a way to claim that without ever really depicting it.

Alla fine ho droppato l' #anime di #Utena per ora. Non perché non resista o chissà quale incredibile motivo.
Semplicemente, guardando l'anime, la voglia di riguardare il #film era troppo forte. Un pezzo d' #arte di altri tempi, un lavoro così eccezionale e assolutamente brillante, in confronto all'anime che pur comunque conserva moltissima #iconografia e disegni di altissimo livello, che semplicemente non è comparabile.

Incolpo, comunque, la #censura di quegli anni.

Claro, el ejercicio de soberbia visual no era de diario pero había ocasiones que no había otra cosa que hacer más que admirar.

Justo como en la película.

El opening de Masami Okui "Rinbu revolution" siempre me gusto, aún en latino me parecía muy bonito y con punch.

El opening 2, también estaba buenísimo.
