UV light, only when the cabinet window is closed, is used whenever we want to be sure that the following experiment won't be contaminated.

However, some major authorities *advise against it*, mainly because of the risk of irradiating the user and because it is no substitute for proper cleaning (which I knew). Indeed, when it's dirty, microbes are shielded from decontamination.

This one is adamite, it glows an intense green. Turns out adamite is an arsenate so I need to find it a nice plastic box. (It also needs a box because the rock around it is covered in a reddish dust that gets everywhere.)

A cool birthday gift from my husband! I collect minerals and have been after UV reactive ones lately. I had a cheap dual wave UV light that likes to die, so he got me a more powerful longwave UV flashlight. It really makes most of the rocks glow and as a bonus, seems to charge up my glow-in-the-dark stuff real fast!
