Disappointed to see that the Senate Health and Education committee give its approval to a bill that bans gender transition procedures for individuals under the age of 18 and ban insurance coverage of the same. In my mind, as long as someone wanting those procedures who's younger than 18 is given all the information to make an informed decision, it's really no one else's business or concern. The bill may be coming up in the full Senate sometime this week (SB1203). #VAgov #VApolitics

🚨 Bad bill alert! The Senate Commerce and Labor committee advanced a bill pushed by Dominion Energy that makes changes allowing Dominion to further pad their profit margin, raising rates on consumers. Senate bill 1265, sponsored by Dick Saslaw. Intense pushback understandably from environmental and consumer protection groups. Negotiations are underway but if the past is any indication, Dominion will largely get what they want. Still, worth making our voices heard! #vagov #DominionEnergy #vapolitics

A few updates from today’s #vagov House and Senate sessions.

- House GOP subcommittee recommended tabling a bill that would’ve directed the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission to study the social, physical, economic, and emotional effect of gun violence on communities in the state.
- A House subcommittee also recommended tabling a bill that would’ve studied the environmental, energy, and economic impacts of data center construction in the state and their ability to meet carbon reduction goals
- The Senate Local Gov’t Committee passed a bill to authorize more localities to rezone in order to add affordable housing
- An assault weapons/ammo ban was passed by for the day

And of course on the House side, we have a bill that directs school personnel to inform parents if they suspect a student identifies as any gender other than the one assigned at birth and inquire if the parents intend to get counseling for the student 🙄 This bill had a hearing today but not sure yet whether it was recommended for passage or not. #vagov #vapolitics

🚨 Important hearing coming up on the 20th at 8:30am! The VA Senate Health and Education committee will take up SB1385 and SB1284, both of which ban #abortion and state that life begins at conception; the first one makes it a class 4 felony for any physician to terminate a pregnancy. Last time abortion bills came up in the Senate, Joe Morrissey voted yes on several anti-choice bills.
