May I introduce you to Te Rangipai, a male North Island kÅkako?
The species is endangered and endemic to New Zealand. The South Island variant is probably already extinct. ð https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KÅkako

Value studies with charcoal, graphite and wax pastel in color. Left side is without blending and the right was an attempt to blend but since the paper is not very good I struggled with that quite a bit.

I sometimes like to make small, simple #watercolor value studies as a starting point. The watercolor sketches are about 3 inches tall while the #skull in the final painting is about 8 inches tall. I do generally start with pencil sketches too but I couldn't find any photos.
