@macberg Although I am very happy with #manjaro, I might switch to either #arch or #vanillaos next year, as they both offer a purer version of #gnome and are kind of magnetic to me in general. 😜️ We'll see.

@thelinuxEXP @vanillaos It's incredible how quickly these guys develop all the specific tools they need. The project exists since less than one year and they have completely reinvented many tools and ways to use Linux. I am impatient to discover the Orchid release!

@LinuxClaude I gotta admit I'm curious about #VanillaOS whenever it hits. Probably not on my main though and I'd wanna see them maintain an upgrade path over time first.

Instead of ending this on an immutable linux distro rant, i'll finish with something positive. :)

What am i excited about?

If VanillaOS ends up transitioning to a Non-Ubuntu base and if it can be rock solid i'm going to be very interested in that.

I'm particularly interested in using VanillaOS with a low-latency kernel replacement for audio work as well.

That may actually keep me from distrohopping for a moment or two and serve my needs well.

I may consider giving Vanilla OS a try, I was avoiding it before since it was Ubuntu-based. But now that I see they're transitioning to Debian-based, I'm on board now.

@mainframed767 Something different, quite interesting and still Ubuntu-based, yet not strictly tied to APT would be #VanillaOS. I guess you could say it's #Distrobox -based. May not be ready for prime time yet though, but worth checking out

@survey I've used #VanillaOS and #Silverblue. Silverblue is much further along than Vanilla. As I have a #Nvidia graphics card, Vanilla is easier in that it installs the drivers right out of the box. Vanilla is changing from an #Ubuntu base to #Debian due to the #Snap vs. #Flatpak stuff so I'm waiting to see how that turns out. I'm sticking with plain #Fedora #Gnome for the moment since Nvidia drivers on Silverblue are beyond my capabilities at this time without disabling secure boot.

Using Kinoite and extremely happy with it.

Even without Toolbox/Distrobox you can use some CLI tools like ffmpeg by using the Flatpaks container. No struggle with Fedoras restricted Codecs either.

Flawless rollbacks, but doesnt break too.

And with Distrobox I just installed Software from the AUR and exported it to my Desktop!
