Can somebody explain the power of #variableFonts to me?

Whats a use case? Do they load more kb than a normal #font? Is it possible to host them locally?

Any recommendations for an #accessible variable font?

We jut dropped a new font inspired by Impact. Hop is more calligraphic in a sense and has potential rounded corner. Hop is variable font with 14 styles embedded.

When I collect my stuff to travel to #btconf @btconf it always feels like meeting some kind of family. I had some highs and lows. When I was there I learned about #ResponsiveDesign, #AtomicDesign, #VariableFonts, #Performance, #Accessibility and a lot of other cool things, way ahead of people that are not attending thought it is cool. 🤷 A big shout out and thank you for @marcthiele to give us the opportunity to learn and grow over the years.

A paid product sorta limits the open discussion we can have without revealing the contents, which I don’t want to do, as this project required a ton of sustained work.

But I’ll share one impressive nugget: nearly 25% of all 2021 & 2022 releases were #VariableFonts. While the report notes that there was no growth between the two years, that percentage shows that a lot of foundries are investing in VF over the last 2 years. Now the big question: what percentage of font *sales* were variable?

Chrome has finally fixed the issue that caused animating variable fonts to crash the tab: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=778352#c77 The issue was first officially reported in 2017.
