My #MidweekMuseum today is the #Vasa #Museum in #Stockholm, #Sweden. Vasa was a 17th century #warship, intended to be the flagship of a squadron based in the Swedish Archipelago, but she was over-designed to be dangerously top-heavy by the king, Gustavus Adolphus, sailed out before a watching crowd, caught a small breeze, flooded through the open gun ports, and sank into mud that preserved her this well.

I was at the #Vasa #Museum in #Stockholm, #Sweden to see the most impressive 17th century #ship ever. Submerged underwater for 300 years, the ship displayed in the museum is 98% original. Here are some pictures I took which do not do it justice as to how large it is.

Die schwedische Galeone #Vasa sank am 10.08.1628 bei ihrer Jungfernfahrt. Das kann heutzutage nicht mehr passieren?! Das italienische Passagierschiff Principessa Jolanda ereilte im September 1907 dasselbe Schicksal.

Nu finns Vasa 1628 att köpa på vissa systembolag. En ny upplaga av samma sprit som hittades på regalskeppet Vasa när det bärgades. Studier av den gamla spritens kemiska sammansättning har möjliggjort denna spännande rekonstruktion. Jag är sjukt nyfiken!
