#Borgarvirki in #Vatnsnes peninsula, northwest #Iceland is a 177m (580ft) volcanic plug that, according to the Icelandic saga, used to have military purposes and was used as a #fortress in around 1000 AD. There are steps that lead to the top. This is a lovely, panoramic view from the top with the man-made #fortification walls in the foreground.

#Vatnsnes peninsula in northwest #Iceland is a great area for seal-spotting. This was taken at a seal viewing area called Svalbard (not to be confused with Svalbard in Norway). There are a couple other viewing areas in the peninsula. We've been to another one at a farm called Illugastadir but I think Svalbard is my favourite. Loved the mountains across the fjord in the background.
