Hurricane Jova will track out into the Pacific Ocean into next week. Upper level west and southwest flow will overspread the eastern Pacific Ocean, allowing mid and high level moisture to move into the southwest U.S. This will result in increasing chances for storms the first half of next week.

After a record breaking hot July, August returned to cooler conditions with the month ending up 2.1 degrees below normal. We also had several days of rainfall, largely thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Hilary, which by the end of the month totaled 1.17” which is 0.85” above normal. The hottest temperature of the month was 109 and the coolest was 67.

Dangerous heat risk is forecast within the lower Colorado River Valley, and adjacent Mohave and San Bernardino Counties Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures will range between 110° to 115°. Stay safe from the extreme conditions by limiting outdoor exposure to the cooler parts of the day, staying hydrated, and wearing light and loose fitting clothing.

An excessive Heat Warning has been issued from 10 AM Monday through 8 PM Tuesday for southern Mohave County and the western Mojave Desert, including Lake Mead NRA and the Lower Colorado River Valley. High temperatures of 108° to 114° are expected on both days. Be sure to keep hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, and recognize the signs of heat illness.
