Some Veil Nebula from last week. Thought it was going to be a bad night with high humidity, but these turned out great. 20 minutes each; Kingston, WA; some iPhone editing. #Unistellar #evscope2 #veilnebula #easternveil #WesternVeil

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #VeilNebula is part of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant 2400 light years away. The source supernova was a star 20 times more massive thanour sun which exploded between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago. This image is a first for me because I (finally) successfully combined exposures from a night in May with those from the night before last. This image is 120 five minute exposures for a total of 10 hours. #StillLearning

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography Continuing my deep exploration of the #VeilNebula I revisited the #WesternVeil aka the Witch's Broom to create this image of 67 five minutes exposures. The bright star is 52 Cygni, a star that is either a red clump (2.2 billion years old) or a red giant star (910 million years old). The Veil Nebula is a large supernova remnant that is between 10,000 and 20,000 years old. It's hard to imagine what these ages actually mean. #StillLearning

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography This image is 5.5 hours (33x600 seconds) of exposure on a faint part of the #VeilNebula called Pickering's Triangle. Discovered in 1904 by Willamina Fleming, a founding member of an all-woman group of human computers at the Harvard College Observatory, the object was named after her boss, Edward Pickering. Fleming analyzed the spectral emissions of tens of thousands of stars and created the classification system that our current system is based on. #StillLearning

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #veilNebula is currently my favorite subject. It is a supernova remnant 2400 light years away in the #Cygnus constellation. This image shows the #WesternVeil, which is also known as the Witch's Broom and Pickering's Triangle. My 250mm lens is not wide enough to capture whole nebula in a single image so I will revisit this with my 100mm lens in the future. This image is 5.5 hours of exposure (66x300 seconds). #StillLearning

#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #VeilNebula is a supernova remnant about 2400 light years away in the #Cygnus constellation. When the star exploded to create the supernova 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, it would have been brighter than Venus and visible during the day. This image, taken with a 250mm lens, shows the #WesternVeil on the left and #PickeringsTriangle in the upper right. I will revisit this subject again in the future to try to capture the whole Veil in the same frame. #StillLearning

For me, this part of the nebula always looks a bit like an alien face in the profile.
