We ended the session attending the party in the old factory. Their first disco.
And as long as the beat went on it was good.
All of them were dancing, some thinking of the consequences and violence of this night others living in the moment.
Which was good ending for the session and this story, leaving what happens at pride to the fan fiction.
Showing the utopian nature of disco and the change it brings.

As her opponent was grabbing for Luna's throat cleo arrived through a hidden door and threatened him with her knife, so he flet.
Jaro could not talk the last one down. And had to hammer him with her handbag full of tools.
The camera secured they destroyed the film and left through the fire exit.

Luna started the rumble by yelling about photos being taken. Cleo coordinated with Daria and hurried to help her gang.
Knives were draw but Jaro messed up the first belhop who came at her with a razor.
The next one tried to do a karate kick at Luna in coke-fueld madness.
She stepped aside and it ended on the floor. Both brawling and grabbing.

They moved to the back of the bar where they overheard belhops talking about taking photos of Daria and Cleo.
Jaro and Luna followed them through the kitchen and took a freight elevator to follow the rival gang.
They caught up with them in a narrow hallway, where the belhops were taking photos through a peephole.

Cleo declined retreating to agressive politness and the belhop seeming left her alone. She went to Daria's room put on some mood music after talking a little about how this is Daria's first date with a woman. They danced and we cut back to the bar.
Where the barkeeper annoyed Luna and Jaro with microagressions about their queerness and the receptionist kept glaring at them.

The Park Hotel was very much high class and very unwelcoming.
The receptionist told the girls to their face, that she thinks they were sex workers and told them not to solicit any customers.
Cleo could ride the elevator up to the floor where Daria's room was. The others waited in the bar.
In the elevator the coked up belhop stopped the ride to try and sell Cleo drugs.

With a train coming they made it into the tunnel and used a service door to vanish to the surface.
Luna was giddy, screaming with joy. The young gay introduced himself as Jeremy and it turns out he is an engineering student. Who just assumed the gang were students as well.
There was a bit of an awkward meeting of social classes.
They got into a taxi together. Promising Jeremy to attend Pride.

From up the stairs they heard two cops beating a young gay man and they saw leaflets advertising the upcoming Pride parade falling down the steps.
They send Jaro, as the white friend, to talk to the cops and maybe stop the violence. But the policemen did not cool it and threatened Jaro as well.
So Luna grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed the cops.
Cleo helped Jaro and the young man escape

Here I decided to forego historicity a little and just go for a grimey 70s subway. Even if it was rather new in Buffalo at the time.
They did not buy a ticket and rolled to "Keep on Truckin". With a failure a conductor entered flanked by Guardian Angels type vigilantes. The girls avoided them by jumping out at an unfamiliar station.
Getting the lowdown of the place things escalated further.

Luna and Jaro weren't convinced it was a good idea to get this close to the mob.
Still they decided to come with Cleo to the hotel, tempted by the luxury. They helped Cleo to get ready for the ocassion and we had another dress up scene.
Then they decided to take the subway out of their turf.

We returned to the girls as Cleo arrived at the Stevedore coming in from the rain and finding Jaro dancing with the older queers (which meant people in their 30s and elders who worked in the harbour all their life). Luna was grumpy at her table.
The characters literally met at a tavern and used the time to catch up, talk about what happened and Cleo's plan to meet the mafia princess Daria in a swanky hotel.

We played our second session of #VelvetGlove by @sarahdoom and it was tons of fun again. To stay 70s, Velvet Glove feels like the Northern Soul of #ttrpg to me right now. Finding an indie gem in a very american context and enjoying it on your own terms in europe. Telling everyone that it is great and they should give it a try.

Freu mich aber aufs Nachschauen, war nämlich heute mit meiner Mädchengang in den 1970ern unterwegs (#VelvetGlove) und konnte nicht live dabei sein!

Anders als bei Monsterhearts, wo ich auch schon mal die Welt enden lasse, drehe ich bei #velvetglove auch für one shots nicht auf 11. Ich denke es ist wichtig die Bodenhaftung zu behalten und auf der Straße zu bleiben. Beides Settings mit Teens, aber unterschiedliche Genres und Vibes.
Also die Gang in Velvet Glove kann überhöht sein, viel erreichen. Aber es sollte sich noch immer anfühlen als würden marginalisierte Mädchen aus den 70ern das gerade erleben.

@Bratapfel @znswanderer @sarahdoom @plotbunnygames I'm glad I didn't shy away from playing a Black character this time - if not in a private off-air game, where else would I do that and have space to get things wrong unintentionally without hurting anyone real? I also liked playing a character that's an hommage to a real queer writer/activist I admire who experienced that time. Super looking forward to the next session of #VelvetGlove already - so many potential topics to explore further!

I really enjoyed experiencing #VelvetGlove again through the eyes of a different playbook (played the Newbie the last time), loved the characters and their complex lives and identities, appreciated the tidbits of real history you always bring in that root the game in reality, even if we make up entire neighborhoods. Together with a great group of players, it all makes for such a rich atmosphere.

Escaping this encounter, Luna needed a new dress, after hers got bloodied. She remembered a ticket for a cleaner she found on the subway and exchanged it for a Dior dress. Using one of the Newbie moves.
They arrived at the Stevedor, as the rain started. Seeing protesters against the mob running queer places get drenched outside.
Inside not much was going on, an unusually low attendance, mostly older regulars.
