#VENµS is a French/Israeli optical satellite for #EarthObservation with #highRes 5m, and frequent revisit, on ~100 sites selected by scientists. In a first phase, VM1, it acquired data every 2 days. @CNES has just reprocessed the complete archive of VM1.

Sometimes, the sun can decide of the life span of a satellite mission !
The #VENµS #remotesensing #satellite is on an orbit at 560 km altitude, where atmospheric drag is high in periods of intense sun activity, which is the case for the two coming years.
As VENµS propellant tank is running low, the more sun activity, the more maneuvers to maintain orbit, and the lower life duration.
Current estimates for end of life range between May 2024 and December 2024.

The #VENµS mission is now on an orbit at 560 km altitude, where atmospheric drag is not negligible in periods of intense sun activity, which is the case for the two coming years.
As VENµS propellant tank is running low, the more sun activity, the more maneuvers to maintain orbit, and the lower life duration.
Current estimates for end of life range between May 2024 and December 2024.

The #VENµS mission started imaging in March 2023 on its new orbit with 1 day repeat cycle. While the @CNES image quality teams are busy reviewing the calibration, @PoleTheia issued one preliminary image (12 bands, 4 m res) per selected site :

#VENµS — pronounced “Venus”.
A collaboration between the French CNES (the government space agency) and, uh, the rest of deets is available, only a search away.
5 meter resolution! But they have mentioned that it's not going to be available worldwide.
Now looking for its usage rights, whether it's open enough, or otherwise.
