I’m an old enough fart too and I worry about all of us.

Old farts don’t deserve to die early (young) and struggle with long Covid and then die young anyways.

Recommendations for placing a in a room with one window and some, not-great, cross- ?

In the door blowing toward the hall - sucking outside air in from the window and blowing filtered air, likely with some virus particles, into the rest of the house

In the window blowing outside air into the room (may as well just use a regular fan)

In the window blowing inside air out the window (ditto)

Other?

Here we go again.

Another year, another school portable with shit and an underperforming HEPA barely enough for two people.

At its lowest CO2 the classroom had been unoccupied for 40 min.

How is this a good learning environment?

A regular reminder that the goal is *not*

“A in every classroom”,

it’s

“Achieving delivery targets in every classroom”

This may be mechanical , multiple portable air filters, or both.

The goal is achieving ensure real risk reduction, not a box ticking exercise with little impact.

The portable air filter recommendation tool at filters.cleanairstars.com was built with this is mind, helping achieve clean air delivery targets at required noise levels.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its ventilation guidance this May, urging building owners and operators to adopt practices that reduce the spread of viral particles. Though these recommendations are perhaps most relevant to schools, hospitals, and group residential or care facilities, homeowners could learn from their advice too."

"...scientists who study viral transmission see another lesson in the pandemic school closures: Had the indoor air been cleaner and safer, they may have been avoidable. The coronavirus is an airborne threat, and the incidence of Covid was about 40 percent lower in schools that improved air quality, one study found."

@Billius27 @harriettmb Grateful for comprehensive manifesto by workers. I liked the part about “multi-layered protections. That’s a useful phrase. People take and for granted, ignoring and . I was unfamiliar with the term , but not the concept. Members of my circle of friends, family working in healthcare note patients’ vulnerability to disease. Elder friends awaiting care in ERs contracted Covid-19.

It’s time. Clean air can keep schools open…

An Italian study of schools estimated that students in classrooms equipped with ventilation systems or devices that deliver clean air had at least a 74%⬇️ risk of infection than those in classes with windows open.

Full readings from my time at the PCP this week. Not good - especially in a known COVID surge in MA - better ventilation, HEPA (merv 13) filters, and masking would go miles in protecting your staff and patients from acquired illness at your facilities.

**Outdoors, CO2 levels are 400-475 ppm. Above 800 ppm, at least 1% of your air is “shared” - meaning you're breathing in exhaled air. CO2 levels above 1,000 ppm is a sign there are elevated risks of potential virus transmission for everyone in the room. Spaces with multiple occupants should aim for 600 ppm to prevent cross-infection.

@eniko yep if Boston could do this, ALL SCHOOLS COULD HAVE DONE THIS.

seriously, take a look at this, you can choose the school and then drill down to the individual classrooms to see which each classroom was like at any point in the day.
