#writingCommunity The verb 'lay' is particularly challenging. It's an irregular verb where the past tense form is 'laid'. But sometimes, the past tense of 'lay' … is 'lay.' This one word makes me pull my hair out because as I #amEditing I second-guess myself all of the time.

Present: I lay the hose on the ground.
Past: I laid the hose …
Past: There lay a hose.
Present: There lays a hose.

Why, WHY! is the English language so grr? #grammar #venting :)

The simple answer for me at least is to sell off a bunch of toys, pay off my debt, grind up the cellphone, ditch the internet and the car.

That would reduce my debt load to food, water, electricity, property taxes and minor day to day items.

What would prompt such an overreaction?

Google Chrome, everyone charging fee’s, and the general disarray of the internet.

Infrared videos show gas leaking or being vented from more than 100 places across 35 fossil fuel sites in Queensland and New South Wales, according to an investigation by environmental organisations. The Australian Conservation Foundation commissioned the US-based Clean Air Task Force, a global nonprofit, to use new technology to monitor if methane was leaking from coalmines and gas facilities owned by energy giants Santos and Origin and pipeline company Jemena. The organisations said the videos were recorded over a four-week period in which they visited 80 sites to take a snapshot of Australia’s fossil fuel infrastructure. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas with more than 80 times the global heating impact of CO2 over a 20 year period when released into the atmosphere.

Currently the government rejects this evidence and is taking no action.

Oh yeah, amid all that I also found time for ttrpgs and video games. And I worked out (though that I have been doing again semi-consistently since late 2021)

But yeah in general I was a lot more active as a person. Nowadays it feels like every activity I have to do requires me to first unstick my *being* from a fly trap or something.

I am struggling with enjoyment with my career lately. It really is the best place I have ever worked and in the long run I do enjoy my freedom I have with it. Just right now I am in a big funk and struggling to get past this. I have had this issue with a few of my past jobs but those were just stepping stones to where I am now. And I am very grateful for my opportunity. Just right now I am having a hard time finding joy. #venting

The whole idea of paying anyone for an IP address allocation or an AS number is stupid.

It’s a number, why does everything have to be monetized.

Despite being a massive perfectionist, I'm not a mind reader.

I hate how my boss throws projects at me, then spends hours on teaching me how she wants it done.

Instead of, you know, actually doing her job and having a plan as to what a project is supposed to accomplish so I can know what I'm supposed to be looking for. 😖

I try to be a nice person. I try to be respectful of people's different backgrounds and skill sets...

Even so, the number of times I've silently asked "How the hell are you an engineer!?" in a bid to avoid screaming in the office has risen sharply in the past year.

In fairness, I direct it at myself pretty often, too. But holy shit, we really are just a bunch of monkeys - and not too far removed from the days of "hit it with a stick."

I'm supposed to have my endoscopy and colonoscopy on Tuesday.

Today I woke up with the worst UTI I've had in a decade, visible blood, pain, etc. All the classic but severe signs.

Never mind that today's schedule doesn't have time for an ER visit, but I had plans I was looking forward to.

On top of this, I am on ozempic, which may interact with antibiotics, and I'm due for my shot today. #Venting #Frustration #ChronicIllness
