Just to give an idea of how long the flower stalks on the grow.
This is an indoor plant, in a sunny spot without wind.

My Venus fly trap is flowering again, really lovely flowers & on a super long stalk (to prevent the pollinator becoming dinner).
I’ll take off the flower once it’s over otherwise the plant will use too much energy making seeds & we really don’t have space for more plants!

How it started vs How its going (6 weeks later)
This genuinely makes me cross.
anyway, these guys will be having a long sleep this winter as I'm certain they haven't had one the last 2 years. i genuinely thought theyd die after a repot/glowup/actual care

Almost 7 days in with my first . These are delicate bog witch plants so I'm anxiously keeping her warm & wet 24-7. She seems she's doing really well!

The Venus Flytrap is growing a really long flower stem and it's really taking its time.

’s have always intrigued me!

The (Dionaea muscipula) is a carnivorous plant from the subtropical wetlands on the East Coast of the United States in North Carolina and South Carolina.

It catches its prey… mainly insects with a trapping structure formed by the plant's leaves, which triggers the closing of two halves via tiny hairs on their inner surfaces.

The ‘trap’ snaps shut only if another contact occurs within approximately twenty seconds of the first strike. Triggers may occur with a tenth of a second of contact. 😳

Once closed the plant secretes digestive enzymes and seals the trap and digests the insect - takes about 10 days and the trap reopens ready for its next meal!

These days due to land development and ruined habitats (thanks to humans!) they are often cultivated in greenhouses

Those that remain in their native habitat send out horizontal, underground stems that develop into new plants ie clones of the parent plant.

Clones can be split from parent plants to start new flytraps. Pretty ingenious, huh?

They love poor, acidic soil; wet roots; high humidity; and full sun.

Plants go dormant in winter, but new growth sprouts in spring.

Oh… it only needs a couple of bugs a month to survive and thrive.
