When I was a rookie Sheriff's Deputy in 199X one of the first in-service classes that we were required to take was "Verbal Judo"
The concepts and training are ones that I use daily.
#ProTip: Want to have better discussions? Try instead asking a question that gets your argument to come out of their mouth.
🗣️ "How many times did that happen?" (Once)
🗣️ "We know that for sure?" (Well...*downgrades exaggeration*)
🗣️ "Can you show me how you do it?" (I don't know).
🗣️ "Should you follow me?" (yes)

The book #VerbalJudo: The Gentle Art of #Persuasion by the late George Thompson III espouses a similar approach to conflict resolution. By #sublimating, #subordinating your own #ego, you can deflect others' #insults and verbal #abuse, get to the root of their problems, and get them to voluntarily #cooperate. Again, not manipulation. You're working toward a person's best interest, which also happens to be yours.
