@rbreich I'm not sure who else to suggest this to: if #journalist associations (or better still #tradeUnion s of #journalists) started their own mastodon instance for their members we could solve the problem of #identityVerification. We would also in one move provide a small number of places with #federation focussed on #journalism where people can find professionals. Please help me spread this idea, do you think it has merit? #VerificationNetwork @RMTunion

Would need to clearly think through failure modes and exploits. Obviously, a bad actor could exploit their own verification to bring other bad actors in to the system. We would need mechanisms for blocking, removing, and de-verifying them.

Otoh, it’s easy to imagine instances that enforce member verification emerging, which could serve as anchors in a robust #VerificationNetwork.
