A weekend of boiling maple sap: mixed results. A friend's sugarhouse burned down, so he asked me to empty his buckets ("Don't want it to waste.") Sap was on the old side, so syrup was "Grade B." Fact is, #Vermonters call the "A Fancy" grade "Tourist Grade" and the B or dark amber #Vermont Grade. More flavor.

Left the house this morning when it was still above 0ºF (with a feels like of -9) to check on the sheep. I was only outside for 15 mins while I gave them more hay and some grains and checked to see if their water was still running (it is!); by the time I was done I could barely feel my fingers. Be safe out there #Vermonters

Also, #Americans near the #Canadian #border would go shopping in #Canada due to their lower prices, reversing the current trend. I know lots of #Canadians who presently cross into the #USA every couple of weeks to do their grocery shopping, since prices there, despite the unfavorable exchange rate, are lower. A 30% tax on goods sold in #America would reverse that flow, #Vermonters would be shopping in #Montreal.

But #Republicans don't care.

Both perished early yesterday as their home (aka museum aka rock art) was engulfed in flames. Their contributions came from intense commitment to their town, the land they inhabited and educating about both.
