"The Blue Dahlia" (1946) 2/4 - I imagine Ladd and Lake as two automatons in a Daft Punk show, but where their mechanicalness compliments the icy remove of "This Gun For Hire" (1942), the star-pairing here feels underdeveloped; that - somewhere - makes sense insofar as this is an original Chandler script. The standout performance belongs to William Bendix, and it is his character’s subjective auditory experiences, related to PTSD, that feel uncommon for the period. #Noir #VeronicaLake #AlanLadd
