#VeronicaRyan I find this work particularly compelling for the way it claims the public space of the horizontal (following a familiar approach in sculpture from the 70s and 80s) but in its materiality, colour and intrigue -- what's an artefact, what's a cast -- asserts an uneasy balance between the sculptor's urge to shape, create and reconfigure, with the need to recognise the presence and forms of life in the world that are already and always shaping themselves.
Beautiful exhibition by #VeronicaRyan at Alison Jacques, London, today is the last day. 1: 'Coral polyps will grow', 2022, Bronze, stoneware, bottle caps, hairnet, twin and jute net. Beyond it: 'Discarded Seeds Reconfigured', 2022. The seeds are ceramic, cast from mango stones. 2: One of the many smaller works. 'Collective Moments VIII, 2001. Lining fabric, thread, broad beans and embroidery ring. #ContemporaryArt

Who is #VeronicaRyan, this year’s Turner Prize winner?
The Caribbean-British artist's sculptural objects and assemblages reflect poetically on the organic world.
Ryan, who is 66 years old, is the second Black woman and the oldest #artist to ever win the prize, but for many, the artist may not be a household name.
