The skull’s horn span across the cores is 75cm, nearly 30 inches!

It's #Minnesota #FossilFriday!🐟🐪🦣 Xiphactinus or Ichthyodectes, that is the question. This vertebra was found on a gravel bar in Southern Minnesota by a friend.

Xiphactinus and the smaller Ichthyodectes were 3-6 meter fish that swam the Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway which covered the central United States for over 40 million years. 🦫🦬🍃

Now donated to the Science Museum of Minnesota.
