Well, I've really been enjoying re-discovering Irene Reid. I've had her three early '60's #Verve albums for 10+ years, but hadn't bothered getting
the 1967 Clyde Otis produced "A Man Only Does (What A Woman Makes Him Do)".

It's a soul/blues album that definitely features Reid at her best. The arrangements and productions can be barely heard over her voice. Just Epic. #Vinyl2Digital

apropos Tony Scott, Fran (Attaway) Scott was Creed Taylors admin/secretary at ABC Records. Fran was largely responsible for the orange/black colors and typeface used for #Impulse!

Tony was invited by the US State Dept. to go on a near/middle east tour in Nov. 59, Fran went with him. On return she went to work for Taylor again at #Verve

My Dad's copy from 1956. It cleaned up beautifully and really sounds great. Vinyl may have limitations, but longevity isn't one of them, at least on a 70 year timeframe!

The LP itself is mostly midtempo standards, played and sung beautifully. You know if this is the kind of thing you like…you'll like this thing.

La verdad es que me molesta un poco esta nueva ola de reediciones actualizadas que están saliendo últimamente porque las veo en su mayoría poco inspiradas, a saber:

- #RobbieWilliams: #XXV. Nueva grabación orquestada de sus temas de siempre. Totalmente prescindible.
- #RichardAshcroft: #AcousticHymns. Nueva grabación en acústico de temas importantes de #Verve y en solitario. La versión de #BittersweetSymphony es un gran acierto.
- #U2: #SongsOfSurrender. Me ha gustado el juego que hacen en #Pride con las voces antiguas y las nuevas, pero no he oído nada más con un mínimo de interés en lo demás. Son número 1 en su primera semana, en parte gracias a su política de sacar tropecientas versiones distintas: estándar de 16 canciones, Deluxe con 20, vinilos en todos los colores del espectro, box set con 40 canciones... No es para mí.
- #BernardButler: #PeopleMoveOn2021. El guitarrista de #Suede sacó un discazo en 1998 y lo ha vuelto a grabar ahora que suena cascadísimo.

Y hay más, pero me da la sensación de que es difícil mejorar, subjetivamente, un disco o una canción que te cautivó en tu juventud. Extra mérito a los grupos que no se suban a este tren.

#NowListening to #BillEvans, Live at the Village Hall, cut by #RyanKSmith from the #AcousticSounds #Verve series. I’ve picked up all of the Evans 33s, & this, a gift from my bro, is, I think, my favourite to date.

There is some really beautiful & delicate playing, but, when it swings, it really swings. Throughout #ChuckIsraels really shines.

This, along with the #Riverside box set, & I’m turning into something of an Evans-fanboy.
