The #VancouverFolkMusicFestival 2023 has just been cancelled and perhaps permanently.

Costs due to Covid and the loss of subcontractors have risen beyond the capability of the festival to fundraise. 

Very sad news. It was always the highlight of my summer of and that of many.

Sad to hear about the demise of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival - when I was new here it was a regular on my summer schedule and introduced me to lots of artists I still listen to. A great loss.

Lots of the reports seem to be saying "oh dear no festival in 2023" and not reading further down the email: given a lack of funding the intent is to dissolve the society entirely at the AGM.

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival is shutting down, forever.

This is a terribly sad development. Not unexpected - major festivals were generally struggling well before the pandemic. The Festival has been running since 1978. Five workshop stages, plus three nights of evening concerts on Main Stage. This festival hosted a huge array of talent, over all these years.
