Cell Structure Design is about creating a consistently , and organization that's capable of sustainable high performance. Such a structure, or "transformation" is achieved within no more than 8 to 12 weeks (it should not take longer!). We usually do this through the approach to transformation. But I am currently undertaking a client transformation just through the approach - which in some cases is also feasible. It's a company of 140 people from 15 or so countries.
Here are a few insights about Cell Structure Design that are worth being aware of: lnkd.in/ecqfh8rb

Transformation means "overcoming", not "optimizing."

Transformation that deserved the name cannot and will not happen if you do not remove, eliminate and overcome things, methods, patterns, beliefs and words that are connected with the previous state of the system.

I hope you will acknowledge that, looking at and this way, it is clear that 100% of "agile transformations" and "lean transformations" so far failed to achieve anything worth the name.

Maybe you will even acknowledge that 96% of agile tools, methods, techniques, frameworks and approaches are utterly inapt at supporting transformation.

The two papers outline key concepts and theory behind the approach, developed the previous year. They also mark a new era in : Away from planned change and , and towards "change work done together with all the willing". Both papers were written by our associates @silkehermann and @nielspflaeging.

Stuff that is part of the nature of command & control organization:s:
- Assign blame
- Praise heroes!
- Instill fear in everyone
- Sow divisive myths
- Appraise and judge people
- Incentivize and punish!
- Use judgmental/divisive language

All this is destructive, with regards to value creation, innovation, performance and competitiveness.

The antidote: Make development a topic of serious conversation. Here is how and youtube.com/watch?v=-XkrhhNhSV

These days, everybody seems to claim they are doing "transformation work". But it is doubtful whether those supposed transformations produce real improvement or optimization, let alone a transformative experience.

For a social system's (e.g. of a company,), several patterns, or principles, must come together:

#1 The design principles (the belief system) must change - from one set of design principles to another. If you do not PART from one set and get TO another, there is NO transformation.

#2 Agreements about those changes must be reached among the system's actors. This means all actors must be affected - not just a few. This is not about talking: The interactions must change. Or it is NO transformation. Power structures & decision-making must change. Otherwise organizational reality would not be affected.

Now, how to do that? The answer is .

You cannot facilitate your way to organizational . Facilitation is not enough. Why? Because transformation must be really really WANTED and getting it done requires being and acting with .

With facilitation skills alone, that cannot be supported.

Status quo. Mindset. Kick-off. Milestones. Comfort zones. Project plans. Maturity levels. Change steps/curves. Ceteris paribus. Change management.

All these concepts are symptomatic of the same flawed thinking about . They all ignore the reality of constant flux, or perpetual Beta.

96% of what is said about organizational are nonsense. Examples:

"People dislike/hate/oppose change".That's as useful as saying they dislike/hate/oppose the weather. it just isn't true. Obviously. Humans dig change, even though they sometimes suffer from it.

"The pace of change is increasing/there is more complexity or more VUCA." Overall, these claims just overrates the and downplay past changes. They are "presence-biased". The pace of change was and is . Period.

"Change happens in predicable curves/phases/levels/steps. change is slow and takes a lot of time." This category of claims is reductionist and false. Ruptures and fast change exist, systemic change is often ultra-fast, and change does not follow any predictable process. Don't listen to the quacks!

A sound approach:
